Hello from the Marketing Committee! We are moving ahead with the main projects that are under our purview – namely the CFAA Journal and the CFAA Fire Alarm Technician’s Podcast.

In the CFAA Journal, we have been getting great content from our contributors, and I would like to highlight the contributions by Thomas Richards from Fire Safety and Protection out of Ottawa. His ‘Fire Alarm System Troubleshooting’ Guide series has been a welcome addition to the Journal and please use this as a training tool with your technician team and also, if I may suggest, look at using this as a program to ensure that your inspection and service sales staff have a good idea of the process used to respond and solve a service call, or deficiency found on site.

Speaking of deficiencies, we have been doing a lot of live and online presentations educating our fire prevention officers across Canada on the changes to deficiencies and reporting as we move over to the 2019 versions of ULC 536 and 537. As our building and fire codes move to the latest versions, we will continue to do more outreach on this topic through various conferences and online sessions. Let us know if we need to work with your local AHJ to get the word out and help their teams to get up to date on these revised standards.

Speaking of education… have you been listening to the CFAA Fire Alarm Technicians Podcast? We have had some great guests on the show over the last year (33 episodes). Each show is clearly titled to help you to choose an episode that may be relevant to your education needs today. We have some great guests lined up for the next couple of months and some good topics to cover. Stay tuned!
